EXTRA: An E-Mail Out Of The Blue

By

Leonard Zwelling

This email arrived in my inbox on March 17:

Mr. Zwelling,

The below website just went live, and the report was submitted to the UT Board of Regents.

Your work was referenced in it, and we thought it would be of interest to you.

https://mdandersonwhistleblowerreport.com/

Thank you.

Since my “work was referenced in “it” and I had no idea what “it” was I clicked the link. You can, too.

You will find a 72-page report on the misbehavior, research misconduct, and personal abuse demonstrated by Dr. Padmanee Sharma. Much of this has been well-reported already.

I have no idea who sent this or who wrote it, but it sounds like this represents the work of more than a few people, both faculty and staff. The fact that I was called “Mr.” Zwelling is a hint that whoever wrote the email was not a faculty member and was only peripherally aware of this blog.

I have no idea to whom this report was sent, although it sounds like the Board of Regents is one recipient.

The emailer subsequently suggested I write about this in my blog, but I think circulating the report is a better idea, so here it is.

Nothing in it surprised me. Why the accused along these other people complicit are still working at Anderson is beyond me, but I have no idea how the current president even got his job, let alone keeps it.

I hope the Regents read it. I hope they do something. Soon.

You have gone too far As I have followed your writings I have often disagreed with your views but always afforded you the respect that they were your own and that you were courageous to state them. Disseminating this vile cowardly attack on distinguished colleagues based on some unknown source without personal knowledge of the facts does not become you. This does great damage to them and to an Institution that we both cherish. I regret to say this does not reflect well you you

    1. The facts have been litigated in court. Many have been relayed to me personally. I’m afraid you’ve been gone too long. Much of this is widely known.

People can read and make their own judgments. This president is worse than the last who was worse than the one before him. The MD Anderson you knew is gone.

Much as in in our nations political scene the barbarians are past the gate. I do know about this. Much is not new. When will it end?
