Signs Of Another American Revolution

You may have missed the fact that Saturday, April 19 marked the 250th anniversary of the start of the American Revolution. This was the date of the Battle of Lexington and Concord and “the shot heard ‘round the world.” The night before Paul Revere took his ride. The President of the United States seemed unaware of the magnitude of what happened on April 19, 1775. He ought to pay attention.

Also on April 19, around the country, this time in 2025, there were demonstrations against America’s current king. No shots were fired, thank goodness, but these crowds are not made up of violent types. I suspect none of these folks were in Washington, DC on January 6, 2021.

Son Richard in Mt. Pleasant, PA attended such a rally in Greensburg, PA at the Westmoreland County Court House. The gathering the week before had been even bigger than the one for Bill Clinton when he spoke during his presidency. This one was smaller due to Easter.

Richard took a lot of pictures. They were mostly of the clever signs displayed by members of the peaceful crowd. If you cut and paste the link above into your browser, you can see the pictures. For those readers who want the abridged version, here are my favorite signs:

Honk if you’ve never drunk-texted top secret war plans.

If you’ve ever wondered what you would have done in 1930s Germany, you’re doing it right now.

My grandpa didn’t fight fascism 81 years ago for this sh*t to happen again!

      Nobels: Harvard 161 Trump 0

People should not be afraid of their governments—governments should be afraid of their people.

On a dog: Make treats affordable again

      Alexa-change the president

A woman holding a picture of the Statue of Liberty—Ain’t no sunshine when she’s gone

National parks, museums, and cancer research funding is not waste, fraud, and abuse

Say this one fast: Super Callous Fascist Racist Sexist Nazi POTUS

The solution is to lock his orange ass up

      Impeach Anus Tangerinus

      The new DEI—Donald Employs Idiots

Prison without due process = Concentration Camp

Held by a child: …If I acted like the people in power, I’d be grounded

It’s so bad even introverts are here

The BW is really depressed by the current situation in Washington. She, like many, see an inept Congress and a passively compliant Supreme Court as the absence of any balance of power. There are no checks and balances. Many fear what President Trump will do to biomedical research, to higher education, and to the country as a whole.

I choose not to embrace the fear.

I think that the process the Founding Fathers established after that war that started 250 years ago, will work.

Some courts are starting to push back on the Trump cruelty and suspension of due process.

The demonstrations by the people indicate that many realize that what Trump has wrought is not at all what they voted for if they voted for him at all.

The news media is trying to balance objectivity with outrage. It’s hard, but, so far, the media has done pretty well.

We all need to be demonstrative when we see our government going down the wrong track. We should remember what the Founding Fathers sacrificed to get us this far.

It was Benjamin Franklin who was supposed to have said at the signing of the Declaration of Independence: “We must, indeed, all hang together or, most assuredly, we shall hang separately.”

These signs and these demonstrations suggest America will hang together when it needs to. Now is the time. It needs to.

I see the light at the end of the tunnel, but there will need to be a lot of repair once The Donald is gone. Universities will need to rebuild their research infrastructures and hire new faculty, if they have not all gone to other countries to work.

All the agencies of the federal government will need to be repaired, rebuilt, and restocked with people. There will be a learning period before the government is back up and running.

Our intelligence and regulatory agencies also need reconstruction.

On the other hand, perhaps all of this can be rebuilt in a smarter fashion such that everyone benefits from the “new” U.S. government.

On that note, we, the loyal opposition (this includes both Republicans and Democrats and is growing larger every day), should begin to think about what we want in the next President. Then we decide WHO we want. Paint me a picture of person who is both constructive and enlightened and is not already a religious leader. If we can find that woman or man, the way for them to build a new United States will be clearer because Donald Trump has destroyed so much in just three months.

Better days are right around the corner. It will not take four years. It might not even take two. If we all oppose the tyrant, a better tomorrow awaits.

  1. The American public is educable. We can better understand where exactly the “waste and fraud” has been found if documentation was made public. We could maybe even get behind it. Especially how that compares to the $200M+ budgeted for Kristi Noem’s thank you, Mr. Trump, commercial campaign.

Bascially, this is a leadership crisis. Trump seems less ready for prime time than he was in 2016. He’s making far more mistakes and surrounding himself with less competent people–Musk, Hegseth, Gabbard, Noem and more. This has now become a constitutional crisis because Mr. Trump will not heed the power of the judiciary. I am not sure what is going to make him stop all his nonsense. He’s really hurting the economy and our relationships abroad. You have to wonder is he just inept or does he have a malevolent agenda?
