A New Prescription Podcast #7:
Inside the Watchtower: The CDC’s History, Impact, and Controversy with Admiral Stephen Redd, M.D.
The CDC took a great deal of criticism during the Covid pandemic. There was trouble certifying testing and uncertainty with regard to the response to the virus. Even today, the source of the pandemic is unclear and whether or not we are ready for another such event is questionable.
In this episode of the podcast, we discuss Covid, flu, epidemiology, and public health with Dr. Redd, a retired Rear Admiral in the US Public Health Service and previous Director of the Office of Public Health Preparedness and Response at the CDC.
He will discuss the origins of the CDC and why it is in Atlanta, not Washington, DC. He will also review what we know about Covid and the vaccine used to protect us. How effective was that vaccine and do we need to keep getting shots as we do to fight the flu?
Measles is also a big issue having resurfaced after it was declared conquered. What happened and why?
Finally, what can we expect from the change in administrations and new health officials, some of whom are skeptical of vaccine effectiveness. How many vaccines does an American child need and who decides?
